Question

number 3

2. Label three 10.00 ml volumetric flasks 1 through 3. Pipet 1.00 mL of 0.200 M Fe(NO,)s into eackh volumetric flask. Then pipet 0.5 mL and 1.00 mL of 2.00 x 101 M NaSCN solution into flasks 2 and 3 respectively. Add sufficient 0.10 M nitric acid to each flask to make the total volume 10.00 mL Calculate the initial concentration of SCN ion in each flask. (Hints: 1. NaSCN is a strong electrolyte, 2. you are making dilute solutions) 3. Use the calibration curve to determine the concentration of this complex in a sample with an absorbance of 0.315. Hint use a ruler to help you get the most accurate reading Calibration Curve: Absorbance of [Fe(NCS)2"] at 447 nm 0.8 0.4 0.2 0.0000 0.0050 0.0100 0.0150 0.0200 0.0250 00300 0.0350 [Fe(NCS)

Explanation / Answer

To calculate concentration from graph. Do these steps as follow-

A) First mark Point A on Y-axis aka Absorbance. Absorbance on point A is .315 which will be in between .2 and .4.

B)Draw a staright ine parallel to X-axis from point-A till the line cuts the slating line. The point at which these two lines intersect in labelled as point B.

C)From that point B draw a straight line parallel to Y-axis and prependicaular to X-axis and label the point at which the line intersects X-axis as C.

The point C will show you yoiur concentration.

From my calculations it should come in between .01 and .015 and exactly equal to .013125
