First of all find the longest chain of carbon atoms .

In this case that would be the one having 5 carbon atoms .

Now check for its substituents . Here one substituent is cl and one is methyl .

So give the numbers to each substituent in such a way that both substituent gets the lowest possible number.

If we start from left side , numbers will be 2 and 3 for cl and methyl respectively.

From right side it would be 3 and 4 for methyl and cl respectively.

As 2 and 3 numbers are less than 3 and 4 therefore we start numbering from left side .

Also the substituents are written according to alphabetical order so the name of compound would be

2-Chloro-3methylpentane .
