Explanation / Answer

Recovery of eugenol

Comparing the IR spectrum of recovered oil (eugenol) with the pure eugenol oil sample showed,

the recovered sample of eugenol has a lower shift (3515 cm-1) of O-H stretching frequency than the pure sample (3525 cm-1) which could be due to higher amount of water left in recovered sample.

We also see more strong peak above 3000-3100 cm-1 in the recovered sample of eugenol showing more unsaturation present in the structure than the original structure of eugenol.

The fingerprint region shows almost the same pattern of peaks for both the samples.
