Question

Rank the following samples in mass, from least togreatest. Your response should be a four letter "word" made upof the letters a, b, c and d. For example, if you think a is thelightest, followed by b, c and d (heaviest), your response shouldbe the word abcd (lower case, no spaces, no commas).
a) 2 moles of N2
b) 1 mole of KCl
c) 9 x 1023 CO2 molecules
d) 2 moles of LiF

Rank the following samples in number of molecules, from least to greatest. Your response should be a fourletter "word" made up of the letters a, b, c and d. For example, ifyou think a contains the least number of molecules, followed by b,c and d (the most), your response should be the word abcd (lowercase, no spaces, no commas).
a) 1 mole of CH4
b) 27 g of H2O
c) 34 g of NH3
d) 22 g of CO2
a) 2 moles of N2
b) 1 mole of KCl
c) 9 x 1023 CO2 molecules
d) 2 moles of LiF

a) 1 mole of CH4
b) 27 g of H2O
c) 34 g of NH3
d) 22 g of CO2

Explanation / Answer

a) 2 moles of N2 = 2* 28 (as weight of N is=14)
                         = 64 gm
b) 1 mole of KCl = 31+ 35.5
                          = 66.5 gm
c) 9 x 1023 CO2 molecules
we know that 6.023 x 1023 molecules = 12 + 16*2
                                                         = 44 gm
so, 9 x 1023 CO2 molecules   = (44/6.023 x 1023)*(9 x 1023)
                                            = 65.74 gm
d) 2 moles of LiF   = 2* (19+9)
                              = 56 gm
so, d is lowest followed by a) , c) and b being the heaviest
so answer is : dacb

for question 2:
a) 1 mole of CH4 = 6.023 x 1023molecules
b) 27 g of H2O
6.023 x 1023 molecules = 2+ 16 gm
       = 18 gm
so 27 gm gives =( 6.023 x 1023/18)*27
                         = 9.035 x 1023 molecules
c) 34 g of NH3
6.023 x 1023 molecules = 14+ 3 gm
                                   = 17 gm
so, 34 gm gives = (6.023 x 1023 /17)*34
                       = 1.2046 x 1024 molecules.
d) 22 g of CO2
6.023 x 1023 molecules = 12+ 16*2
                                    = 44 gm
so, 22 gm gives =( 6.023 x 1023 /44)*22
                        = 3.012 x 1023 molecules
so here c is largest followed by b , a and d being the lowest.
so answer is cbad
