Question
Do i need to set this up as a system of equations? Alittle confused.... 10.5x and 8.96y = 76.0 ??? A small sterling silverbracelet has a mass of 76.0g and a volume of 7.33 ml ( by waterdisplacement). Calculate the mass and %Ag and the mass and %Cu in the bracelet. Assume the volumes to be linearlyadditive. Density of Ag = 10.5g/ml; density of Cu =8.96g/ml. Density of Ag = 10.5g/ml; density of Cu =8.96g/ml.Explanation / Answer
75/7.33 = 10.37Then let the amount of silver equal 10.5x let the amount of copper = 8.96(1-x)
Set up your equation as follows 10.37= 10.5x + 8.96(1-x) 1.41=1.54x x=.915 This is your percent of silver Therefore you have .085% Copper To check 10.5(.915) + .085(8.96) =10.37
