Question

Determine the concentration of the ion indicated in eachsolution. [K+] in 0.232 M KNO3 [NO3-] in0.199 MCa(NO)2 [Al3+] in 7.8*10-2 MAl2(SO4)3 [Na+] in 0.181 M Na3PO4 Determine the concentration of the ion indicated in eachsolution. [K+] in 0.232 M KNO3 [NO3-] in0.199 MCa(NO)2 [Al3+] in 7.8*10-2 MAl2(SO4)3 [Na+] in 0.181 M Na3PO4 [Na+] in 0.181 M Na3PO4

Explanation / Answer

The concentration is kinda like mol where you can use thecoefficients of the balanced equations to determine. So we have towrite out the equation for these solublesubstances. 1) KNO3   --> K+ + NO3- We can see that 1 mol of KNO3 can produce 1 mol ofK+ ion. So the concentration of K+ ion isgoing to be the same as KNO3. => [K+] =[KNO3] = 0.232 M 2) Ca(NO3)2  --> Ca2+ + 2NO3- So the ratio of this equation is 1 molCa(NO3)2 can produce 2 molNO3- ion => [NO3-] =2 x [Ca(NO3)2] = 2 x 0.199 M = 0.398 M 3) Al2(SO4)3 --> 2 Al3+ + 3SO42- The ratio is 1 to 2 => [Al3+] = 2 x[Al2(SO4)3] = 2 x 7.8 x10-2 = 15.6 x 10-2 M = 0.156 M 4) Na3PO4 --> 3Na+ +PO43- The ratio is 1 to 3 => [Na+] = 3 x [Na3PO4]= 3 x 0.181 M = 0.543 M
