Question

Magnesium metal reacts with HCL to produce hydrogen gasaccording to the equation: Mg + 2HCL yields MgCl2 + H2 . If2.15g of Mg reacts completely, what volume of hydrogen can beproduced at STP (disregard the vapor pressure of water). What willbe the volume if the gas is at 735 torr and a temp of 25 C?? Thanks much for your help Magnesium metal reacts with HCL to produce hydrogen gasaccording to the equation: Mg + 2HCL yields MgCl2 + H2 . Explanation / Answer

                 Mg + 2HCL -----> MgCl2 + H2                    2.15g x (1 mole/24.3g)                =0.088 moles Because Mg reacts complete, it is limitingreagent. ===> H2 is also generated 0.088moles ( 0.088 mole of Mg x (1mole of H2 / 1 moleof Mg)) PV = nRT  STP: 0 oC & and 1 atm ===> V = 22.4 L x0.088 moles ==> 1.97 L
If it is under 735 torr & 25 C PV = nRT ===>   (735/760) . V = 0.088 . (0.0821) . (273.2 +25) ==> V = 2.23L
