Question
We did a lab where we prepared an acetate buffer.We were asked to report the mass in grams of base and acid neededto prepare the acetate buffer solution, and the resulting pH. Iused 10.2512 g of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate and 1.2 mL glacialacetic acid, and the pH of the buffer solution was 5.4. I know theHH equation, but I'm not sure how to apply it here to get the massof base and acid in grams.
We are also asked to show the equation for preparing an acetatebuffer with pH 5.5. I did this
5.5 = 4.75 + log (acetate/acetic acid)
and got 5.62, but I don't really understand what this means (itsjust the ratio of salt to acid?) or if this is the answer I'msupposed to give or if I have to go further.
Thank you for any help!
