Question
How do you calculate the percent yield of aproduct from H-NMR peaks? Not using any other method, they are notavailable. The only information we have now is the H-NMR's we ranof our products. The reaction ran was an esterification reaction (carboxylic acid +alchohol with DBSA and water to form an ester). It was stated inthe handout that the yield can be determined by comparing compoundsof the HNMR, using the integration of the peaks. However, I stilldon't understand how that works.

Explanation / Answer
you can do it making a calibration curve, if you have standart of the product that you want to quantify tou can made standart solution and take the nmr spectrum of each one, then take a signal os one or more protons of the spectra and determine the intensity of each one, then do the calibration curve, finally take the spectrum of your sample and correlate this with the data of the calibration curve, you have to take care of preparion the solution right and add a known volume of the sample to the nmr tube to ensure reproducible data.
