Question

A typical four cylinder car engine has a mass of around 71.0 kg. Ifyou assume that the engine is made entirely of steel, it would havea heat capacity of 32.7 kJ/K. The normal operating temperature ofthis type of engine is approximately 190.0 F. Using these values, how much heat would the engine absorb if you started it on a daywhen the air temperature was 20.0 oCand let it run until each reached its operating temperature ? Giveyour answer in kilojoules.
If you could show me step bystep I would greatly appreciate it!!!!! I'm having trouble withconverting the heat capacity to Celsius

Explanation / Answer

heat capacity = 32.7 kJ/ K Operating temperature (final) = 190 F = 87.77 C Initial temperature = 20 C So difference in temperature = 87.77 - 20 = 67.77 C Heat absorbed = Heat capacity * temperature difference                        =32.7 kJ/ K * 67.77 C                        =2216.1 kJ It must be remembered that the difference intemperature of 1 K or 1 C are equal. So heat capacity incelsius or kelvin are the same.
