Question
b) Given that the halogens have the same degree of bulkiness, themost stable conformer isthe ring flipped conformer both have the same stability the one shown on the leftI'm not quite sure what the answer is for b and would love ifsomeone could please explain it to me. I'm unsure if having thesame degree of bulkiness meant that it didn't matter which wasbetter or if the one that is the most electronegative should alwaysoccupy the most stable position meaning the conformer on the leftis the answer. Perhaps I'm just completely wrong all together. LOL. Can someoneplease explain this to me? a) Write the IUPAC substitutive name of the compound shown on theleft above. (Hint: you will need a stereo prefix to indicate the specificstereoisomer.) 1Explanation / Answer
Im not sure why the question states that the halogens have thesame bulkiness... becaus ein relaity Br is about 60 times largerthan F. Since the question wants you to treat them the same,I would just go with the answer that states that they are equal inenergy. If the question didn;t say that, I would tell you tochoose the answer that puts Br equatorial. Good luck... very odd question.Related Questions
