Question
i know that calcium hydroxide should always be sealed in anexperiment or a lab because it reacts with oxygen. In our lab wehad 2 equations CaC2 + 2H2O --->C2H2 + Ca(OH)2 and HCl + Ca(OH)2 ---> 2H2O+CaCl2 now its asking : Calcium hydroxide always needs to besealed since it reacts with oxygen and will diminish overnight ifleft uncovered...* explain USING SENTENCES and BALANCED CHEMICALEQUATIONS why this is the case**....? i know that calcium hydroxide should always be sealed in anexperiment or a lab because it reacts with oxygen. 2Ca(OH)2 + O2 -> 2CaO +2H2O So, It has to be sealed because if oxygen reacts with calciumhydroxide,CaO will form. Also, Ca(OH)2 will reacts with CO2 in theair Ca(OH)2 + CO2 -> CaCO3 +H2O Hope this helps!
