Question

You have been recently promoted to the position of a Network Administrator of a network which has 15 Windows Servers 2012 EE & 200 Windows 7 workstations. Your supervisor has given you the responsibility to implement SAN as a solution for storage. He wants you to make a presentation to the corporate stakeholders. Answer some of the following in your presentation: What are the key features for SAN and what are the considerations for choosing SAN as a storage solution? How will your company benefit with respect to reliability, high availability, and fault tolerance? How does it complement or compare with clustering? Assess the performance vs. cost considerations for using SAN and clustering solutions in Windows Server 2012.

Explanation / Answer

The main important features of SAN are data deduplication, proper use of available disk space, thin provisining and dynamic tiering

Since it eliminates / removes duplicate..we will have efficient use of data storage available with us.
And ot can work as both inline or post process. It will search efficeintly and reduce
the size of disk volumes.
Since there is no duplicates of records..it is high reliablity and fast...At any time
the data to search is avaialbe..and fault tolernce is less compare to to others.

Well it is complement when we compare with cluster. Cluster will store data in many places
which uses storage more heavily..so this makes searching time more with clustering.
Already we havebeen talked about performance in above statements. When compared to
cost Using SAN is very cheaper compared to clusters since it required very few
hardware space comparatively to clusters.
