Throughout this course, you have encountered a number of different system architectures, a few of which are listed below. Each has its own benefits and risks, and each appropriately addresses the needs of different companies.

Most computer storage devices like disk drives or JBODs (Just a Bunch of Disks), tape devices, and RAID systems are directly attached to a client computer. They use various adapters and standardized software protocols like SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) and FC (Fiber Channel).

2 Asynchronus Replication- Asynchronus replication, a single master site supporting materialized view replication provides the mechanisms to support potentially hundreds or thousands of materialized view sites.Multimaster replication, also known as peer-to-peer or n-way replication, is comprised of multiple master sites equally participating in an update-anywhere model. Updates made to an individual master site are propagated (sent) to all other participating master sites.

3) Cluster-A cluster comprises two or more nodes that are linked by an interconnect. The interconnect serves as the communication path between the nodes in the cluster.

Node Components-A node has these main components:

central processing unit - The main processing component of a computer that reads from and writes to the computer's main memory.
memory - The component used for programmatic execution and the buffering of data.
interconnect - The communication link between the nodes.
storage - A device that stores data. This is usually persistent storage that must be accessed by read/write transactions to alter its contents.

4) Active/ passive- Network Switches are the basic components of an IP Network. All the network endpoints (like PC’s, Laptops, Printers, etc) connect to these switches. As the name goes, they switch (distribute) the data received from one node to any other node in the network.
