Question

1. Fill in the blank: In Eukaryotes, a gene gets ______________ into ___________, before this

molecule is transported out of the nucleus certain segments of this molecule called ________

get spliced out, furthermore the molecule gets a __________ and a ____________ to make

sure that it’s properly transported into the cytoplasm and doesn’t get ___________. After it

exits the nucleus this molecule is ______________ into _____________ by

______________.

2. In what direction is the primary transcript constructed? Why?

3. What are the major RNA/protein components of translation?

4. How are ribosomes targeted for the ER?

5. What kinds of proteins would be made this way?

Explanation / Answer

1.In Eukaryotes, a gene gets ______________ into ___________, before this

molecule is transported out of the nucleus certain segments of this molecule called Introns

get spliced out, furthermore the molecule gets a small cytoplasmic RNA and a small cytoplasmic ribonucleoprotens (sc RNP) to make sure that it’s properly transported into the cytoplasm and doesn’t get ___________. After it exits the nucleus this molecule is ______________ into _____________ by

______________.

2. Primary transcript is the single strand RNA synthesis from DNA during transcrption. The direction of RNA synthesis during transcription is in the direction 5' to 3' direction.and DNA template reads in 3' to 5' direction. The direction of RNA synthesis is in 5' to 3' because RNA polymerase moves along the DNA in 3' to 5' direction and template strand of DNA is complementary to RNA strand transcribed.

3. mRNA containing nucleotide sequence

Ribosome ( site where proteins are synthesised) is required to decode information on mRNA and forms long chain of amino acids and then into polypeptide.

tRNA molecules containing specific anticodon

4. The ribosome associated with signal peptide sequence containing hydrophobic amino acids at the amino terminal end of the polypeptideis known as translocon. The translocon binds to signal recognition particle (SRP) receptor and gets translocated to Endoplasmic reticulum.

5. The proteins of endomembrane system consisting of Golgi apparatus ,Endoplasmic reticulum, lysosomes, endosomes and secretary vescicles are synthesised this way.
