Question

(d) (5 Points) If we were to use NRZ line codes, plot the signal to be sent for the first 5 bits. (e) (10 Points) If instead of NRZ, we use RZ with pulse durations 1/4th of the NRZ line codes used in part (d), what percentage of power do we save (to get the power of a rectangular pulse, perform some internet search). In this assignment, we will apply what we have learnt in coding in general as well as the conversion from analog to digital. You will need Matlab to complete the assignment. There are two main question with multiple sub-questions. Question 1 (40 points): In this question we will start with an analog signal, sample it to discretize, digitize, determine the bits to be sent, and then represent the bits with an analog waveform or line codes. For this, perform the followings: Figure 1: Analog signal for Q.1 (a) (10 Points) For the signal shown in Fig. 1, starting from t = 0, if we sample the signal for every 1/10 seconds, determine the discrete values. (b) (10 Points) If we want to define 8 different levels between -1 and 1. assign the discrete values obtained in part (a) into these levels and then assign the levels to the bits with the lowest level being represent by 0 bits (You need to determine how many bits to use per level). (c) (5 Points) Write down the bit sequence to be sent for the samples of this signal.
