Question
The rechrystallized asprin is 0.050% salicylic acid by mass. Determine the number of moles of salicylic acid for each trial.
In the lab we titrated the sample with a standard NaOH solution the average molarity was determined to be 0.1019 M.
We ran two trials and I need separate answers for each. Here is the data:
Mass of Sample Volume NaOH Total Moles Acid
Trial 1 0.2300 g 13.9 mL 0.001410
Trial 2 0.2100 g 11.1 mL 0.001131
If you could explain how and why you got the answers you did it would be a big help. Thanks in advance.
Explanation / Answer
trial 1 - no of moles of NaOH - 13.9*0.1019 = 1.42 milimoles = moles of acid in sample
trial 2- no of moles of NaOH - 11.1*0.1019 = 1.31 milimoles = moles of acid in sample
