Question
Vanadium, V, is produced using V_2O_5 and calcium in the following reaction: V_2O_5 +5Ca ---->2V+5CaO , Use this equation to answer two questions below:a. What mass of vanadium would be formed using 60.0g of V_2O_5 and excess Ca if the yield of the reaction was 72.0%
b. Waht is the theorectical yhield of vanadium, in grams, that can be produced by the reaction of 40.0g of V_2O_5 with 40.0g of calcium?
Explanation / Answer
V2O5 +5Ca ---->2V+ 5CaO moles of V2O5 =60/181.88 = 0.33 moles of vanadium formed = 0.33 * 2 = 0.66 weight = 0.66 * 51 = 33.66 % yield = 72 % weight of vanadium formed = 0.72 * 33.66 = 24.235 grams b) 40 g of calcium = 1 mole 1 mole of Ca reacts with 1/5 moles of V2O5 thus vanadium produced = 2 moles = 102 grams
