Question
You were given a sample of cells and asked to determine which type of cells they are-prokaryotic or eukaryotic, and if eukaryotic, are they plant or animal cells. Describe the sequence of what you would look for in order to reach that decision. White blood cells (WBC) fight infections. Some of the mechanisms involved are phagocytosis followed by digestion and killing of bacteria and viruses. Which organelles inside the WBCs are involved in this process? Describe how do these organelles achieve that.Explanation / Answer
1.
a. Cells are placed under the microscope for observation
b. Eukaryotic cells show a small black spot which is the Nucleus and this is absent in Prokaryotic cells.
c. Eukaryotic cells are then paced under microscope for observation
d. Eukaryotic cells which ar erectangular and possess a rigid outer cell wall is Plant cell and the one which does not have a outer cell wall and are irregular shaped then it is Animal cell.
2.
Organelles which ar einvolved in the process are - Granulocytes which contain Lysosymes , Monocytes which actually develop into Macrophages and lastly Lymphocytes
Granulocytes contain Lysosymes which help WBCs by engulfing small organisms through Phagocytosis.
Monocytes which develop into Macrophages also help in Phagocytosis by engulfing unwanted organisms.
Lymphocytes make antibodies ( B - Lymphocytes) and kill virus infected cells and help in regulation of other WBCs ( T-Lymphocytes)
