Question
You have mutated some nice and found a dominant mutation that cause diabetes (D) in mice. You are trying to map the mutation. You have mice that have 2 separate recessive mouse eye color mutations on chromosome 7, pink (p) and ruby (ru). + is wild type for a gene. What is the genotype and phenotype of the offspring that you would count to calculate recombination between your mutation and ruby?
If ru has 20 recombinants/100 offspring and p has 73 recombinants/100 offspring with D, which is closer to the locus?
Explanation / Answer
ques 1.Which breeding scheme would you use to see if your mutation is linked to ruby?
4th scheme will tell us.
In the above crosses, nowhere p is showing. means it the gene mutation which is farther away from the locus. And with it the dominant mutation D is recombining. That is why in all the cases p seems to be eliminated.
ruby and mutation D is linked. Genotype of offspring that should be counted for finding out mutation is ru+/ruD, D+/++ , ruD/ru+,++/D+ . Phenotype of these recombinants will be ruby and diabetic (because D is dominant) and diabetic wild.
