There is generule for solubility in the chemistry that says "Like dissolves Like".
Now since potassium iodide is a polar compound , it tends to be soluble in polar compounds such as methyl alcohol , whereas naphthalane is a non polar compound , so it is soluble in non polar solvents such as benzene.
The vice versa does not happen as the polar solutes cannot be dissolved into non polar solvents and non polar solutes cannot be dissolved in polar solvents.
