Fractional coefficients will not be accepted. If possible, coefficients must be reduced to the lowest whole number. Leave the blank empty if the coefficient should be one. H2 (g) Cu (s) + Cuo C (s) -B03 (s) + B4C3 (s)+ CO2 (g) CO2 (g) + H20 -02 (g)Explanation / Answer
Ans 65 :
Carbon has 4 valence electrons in and nitrogen has 5 valence electrons. They both have sp3 hybridization in CH4 and NH3. Carbon does not have lone pair of electrons , so all the four bonds are present with hydrogen . Nitrogen has one lone pair of electron and 3 bond pairs with hydrogen .
The presence of different numbers of bond pairs and lone pairs cause varied amount of repulsion in them and hence different molecular geometries.
So the molecular geometry of methane is tetrahedral and that of ammonia is trigonal pyramidal.
