Question

1.) the action of the dorsal interosseous muscles of the hand is to ________ the digits, whereas the action of the palmar interosseous muscles of the hand is to ______ the digits

2.) what three muscles insert on the calcaneal tendon?

a. the muscles in question 2 are collectively referred to as the _________

3.) One action of the gluteal muscles (gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus) is to rotate the hip

a. which gluteal muscle(s) laterally rotate the hip

b. which gulteal muscle(s) medially rotate the hip

Explanation / Answer

1) The action of the dorsal interosseous muscles of the hand is to index, middle and ring digits, whereas the action of the palmar interosseous muscles of the hand is to index, ring and little digits.

2) The three muscles insert on the calcaneal tendon include the plantaris, gastrocnemius (calf bone) and soleus (heel bone).

a) Plantaris, gastrocnemius and soleus muscles are collectively called as 'Achilles tendon' or Calcaneus tendon.

3a) Gluteus maximus muscle laterally rotates the hip.It is roiginated from posterior gluteal line of the ilium , sacrum, coccyx, and the sacrotuberous ligament.

3b) Gluteus medius muscle medially rotates the hip and gluteus minimus assists the gluteus medius. Gluteus medius originates on ilium between anteroposterior gluteal lines and inserts at lateral portion of the greater trochanter of the femur. Gluteus minimus originated between the anteroposterior gluteal lines of the ilium and inserts at anterior surface of the greater trochanter of the femur.
