The Hermann Grid creates the illusion of grey areas at each of the intersections of the white bars. If you stare at any one intersection, the illusion is not as strong (and may disappear altogether). However, the illusion persists at the intersections that you are not directly looking at. This illusion has been explained as being due at least in part to the receptive field properties of your retinal ganglion cells (which are similar in most vertebrates, including toads). Explain how such properties may give rise to this illusion most strongly in our peripheral vision, and why the illusion is not as strong for the intersection that you stare at directly. You may draw a picture or pictures to illustrate, but you must also explain in words.

Grid illusion is any kind of illusion that decives a person's vision . Hermann grid illusion is a type of optical illusion which is charectersized by visually percived images that differ from the objective , the information gathered by the eye is processed in the brain to give a perception that does not tally with the physical measurement of source ,cognitve illusions are assumed to arise by interactions with assumptions . the herman grid of shhowing grey and white shows that it is a type of fictional optical illusion ,
Herman grid display faint ,transient spots are produced at interactions of white grid super imposed on a black background . the vertical and horizantal bars have different reflectance levels ,based on thetype of weaves seen in the herman grid the illusion occurs one type of weave interwined vertical and horizantal bars has same level of luminiscence and other type of weave is they have different on horizantal and vertical illusion .
so , the property contributing for the illusion is the mismatched weaves causes the spot , the spot occurs at the interactions where bars crossing over another has a luminiscence level between thebar below it and background .on white background ,illusionary bright spots occurs only at interactions where light gery passes infront of black bars . on the black background illusionary dark spots occurs only at the lightgrey bands cross over the dark bands this produces thebright spot .
