Question
HWI. A sadent raem the following reacticoe Ho A TLC of the reaction after workup indicaned the presence of TWO spots. Afier runeing a clume and separating the two compounds by TLC, the studom found that the majority of the mass gave the following NMR and FT-IR dita. ls the majority of the yield the desired prodact? Explain your answer. (HINT: compare the sprectra below with those of P? and PS What signals are most diagnostic for your prodact vs starting material in both IR and NMR) pon Copyright © 2016 Rochester Institute of Technology All Rights Reserved Page 130Explanation / Answer
By seeing NMR and IR the reaction is not progressed.
By NMR delta 7.5 (d,2H), 6.8 (d,2H) and delta 1.1 (s,9H) clearly indicates the presence of staring material and absence of singlet at delta 4.0 also indicates absence of product.
By IR 3500 to 3000 cm-1 clearly indicates presence of alcohol which clear shows the reaction not proceeded. The majority of the product is starting material.
