Question

Answer is E can someone please explain to me.

How many isomers are possible for the coordination compound [Co(NO2)(NH3)5]Cl2?

Question A15. In analysing the electronic transitions involved in the hydrogen atom the following expression is commonly used: z2 Z2 ,--2.178 x 10-14 The electronic transition from the n 3 to the n-4 level of the hydrogen atom would appear at: A. An energy of-1.06 x 1019 J B. A wavelength of-1.877 x 10 nm C. A fequency of-1.6x 1019 Hz. D. A wavenumber of 532,624 cm E. None of the above. (3 minutes)

Explanation / Answer

Solution:- (A15) Electron transition is taking place from n = 3 to n = 4

We would calculate the energy for this transition and it would be the difference of the enrgy of these two levels.

In the given eregy equation, Z is the atomic number. Atomic number of hydogen atom is 1.

delta E = [-2.178 x 10-18(12)/42 ] - [-2.178 x 10-18(12)/32]

delta E = -1.36 x 10-19 + 2.42 x 10-19

delta E = 1.06 x 10-19 J

Now we can calculate the frequency for this energy using the equation, E = hf

where h is panck's constant and f is frequency.

1.06 x 10-19 J = 6.626 x 10-34 J.s(f)

f = 1.06 x 10-19J/6.626 x 10-34 J.s

f = 1.6 x 1014 s-1 or Hz

So, the correct frequency for the transition of hydrogen atom electron from n = 3 to n = 4 is 1.6 x 1014 Hz.

There must be a typo in the choice c. It's exponent must be 1014 and not 1019.
