Dividing MW 96 by 13 we get quotient = 7 and remainder = 5 hence the hydrocarbon formula is C7H12.

The unknown compound expected to be containing N & O also so we need to adjust Hydrocarbon formula accordingly.

To adjust 2 N (even N neccessarily) we need to cut hydrocarbon formula by mass 28 (2 N mass 14x2 =2)

which is equal to removal of 2 CH2 groups i.e. C2H4 and to adjust 1O we need to remove CH4 (16 mass for 1O)

Toally we need to remove C3H8 part from hydrocarbon formula
