Lab day/time: Name: Thi Luon Expt 7 Prelab Assignment Reading Assignment: DUE: Week 8 at the beginning of the lab period!! Lab Packet Expt 7 Neutralizing Power of Antacid Tablets " Chemistry Textbook, Sections 4.3 (acid-base reactions), 4.5 (Concentration of Solutions) and 4.7 (Acid-Base Titrations) Write the balanced, ionic and net ionic equations for the reaction between an antacid (calcium carbonate solid) and stomach acid (HClI) 7a 7b Calculate the number of moles present in 1.892 grams of KHP. Show your work Mw (33.102 t100g + 30.gg) 71,09 In your procedure it calls for measuring out around 1.8 grams of KHP and dissolving it in 75 mL of water, adding indicator then titrating with NaOH. If you mistakenly added 100 mL of water instead of 75 how would it effect your titration results? 7c 7d Calculate the NaOH solution concentration in moles/L given the following experimental data. A sample of 2.124 g KHP dissolved in 75 mL of water were titrated with 35.15 mL of NaOH solution. This acid/base reaction is a 1:1 molar ratioExplanation / Answer
Ans
7c) If mistakenly 100mL of water is added instead of 75mL , the KHP solution will become dilute.
Now when NaOH is titrated against it , the volume of NaOH will come out to be low , as their were lesser number of moles of KHP in the solution.
7d) Number of moles of KHP = 2.124 / 204.22 = 0.0104 moles
So number of moles of NaOH will also be 0.0104
Molarity of NaOH = 0.0104 / 0.3515
M = 0.296M
