Explain why disappearance of the blue color in the reduction of copper ion with zinc indicates completion of the reaction. 4. Octane, CeHs, reacts with oxygen gas, O2, to form carbon dioxide and water. Write a balanced chemical equation, including states, for this reaction. This is an example of what type of reaction? Explain your answer. Revised 1/17/17Explanation / Answer
3) When the copper ion gets reduced with zinc, it changes from Cupric (Cu2+) to Cuprous (Cu+).
Cuprous is colourless as it has a filled d orbital but Cupric is blue coloured because of its incomplete d orbital.
