Phosphates, arsenates, and chromates are insoluble.

Sulfates are soluble except with calcium, strontium, barium, silver, mercury and lead.

a.

Carbonates are insoluble.

b.

Hydroxides and oxides are soluble.

c.

d.

Sulfates are soluble except with calcium, strontium, barium, silver, mercury and lead.

Explanation / Answer

Statement (b) is incorrect. Hydroxides and oxides are insoluble in water. Except for alkaline, alkaline earth and ammonium ions the hydroxides and oxides of transition metals are insoluble. For example hydroxides like aluminium hydroxides, ferric hydroxide, cobalt hydroxides etc. and oxides like aluminium oxide, ferric oxide, cobalt oxide etc. are all insoluble in water.
