solve the following with some explnation if you can and thanks in advance .. :)
For electricity to flow in a voltaic cell, the two half-cells must be a. connected by a wire and a porous barrier. b. completely isolated from one another. c. in the same solution. d. connected to a dry cell. A more positive value for electrode potential means the electrode is more likely to be a(n) a. anode. b. cathode. c. electrolytic cell. d. electrochemical cell. Calculate E^0 for the spontaneous reaction when an Ag^+/Ag half-cell is joined to an Hg^2+/Hg half-cell. Name the neutral metal produced. a. +1.65 V: Ag b. +1.65 V: Hg c. +0.05 V: Ag d. +0.05 V: HgExplanation / Answer
Hi
9. The two half cells must be connected by wire and a porous barrier.
10.The more positive value of electrode potential where's the electrode is more likely to be a cathode.
11. E° of Ag+/Ag= 0.7994 V
E° of Hg2+/Hg= 0.855 V
E° of cell = 0.855- 0.7994 V = 0.05 V
Neutral metal is produced at cathode and Hg is the neutral metal.
Thank you
