You are the TA for this experiment, and the following hypothesis is handed in to you. What feedback would you give to the student in order to help them write a better hypothesis in the future? In this experiment we will use 0.100 g of magnesium metal to synthesize magnesium carbonate, in a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask, which is a white powder that we will generate by reacting the magnesium metal with a series of reagents to form several magnesium salts with differing solubilities in water which will allow us to determine our percent yield. Keep in mind these are potentially real situations that we have encountered in labs in the past. A student tries to precipitate magnesium carbonate and nothing happens. What could the student test before deciding to restart the experiment?
