Explanation / Answer

27. The atomic number of silicon, Si is 14. The electronic configuration of Si is [Ne] 3s2 3p2

After getting two extra electrons it will become Si2-.

Hence the electron configuration of Si2- is [Ne] 3s2 3p4.

28. The atomic number of the neutral atom of chlorine, Cl is 17.

The electronic configuration of a neutral atom of chlorine is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p5.

Here the sub-shells 1s, 2s, 2p and 3s are fully filled. The 3p sub-shell contains three orbitals which can accommodate 6 electrons.

But, there are 5 electrons, hence one orbital of 3p sub-shell is unpaired.

So, the number of unpaired electrons in the neutral atom od chlorine is; one.

29. The electronic configuration of K, Sc, H and Ga are given below:

K: [Ar] 4s1

Sc: [Ar] 4s2 3d1

H: 1s1

Ga: [Ar] 3d104s24p1

Hence, all of the above neutral atoms of an element has 1 unpaired electrons.

30. The number of electrons in N3- is 10

O2- is 10

F- is 10

Na+ is 10

Mg2+ is 10

and Al3+ is 10

Hence, ther are isoelectronic

they each have a noble gas electronic configuration

they are relatively stable and unreactive compared to the neutral elements

they are all found combined with other elements in nature.

So, the answer is: all of the above are true.
