Heritability is given as:

h2 = R/S ----> (1)

Where h2 = heritability

R= Selection Response

S= Selection Differential

Let the mean weight be X. Now putting values in (1) we get,

0.3 = 80- X/60

18 = 80-X

X = 80-18 = 62g

For second population substituting the given values in (1) we get,

0.5 = 80 - X/ 60

30 = 80 - X

X = 50g

Thus, the mean fruit weight among progeny of tomato plants are 62g and 50g respectively for first and second population respectively.

The difference is due to the variance for heritability for trait in each population.
