Question

Balance the following equation then calculate molarity of a hydrochloric acid solution requiring 0.1500 g of Na_2CO_3 for titration to the methyl orange end point: Na_2C_2O_3(aq) + HCI(aq) = NaCl(aq) + CO_2(g) + H_2O(l) If the following reaction will take place, complete and balance it. If there is no reaction, so State: Cu(NO_3)_2(aq) + Zn(s) rightarrow Balance the following half reactions in acidic solutions: i) VO^2+(aq) rightarrow V^3+(aq) ii) Cr_2O^2-_7(aq) rightarrow Cr^3+(aq) Balance the following redox reaction then tell which ion is the oxidizing agent and which is the reducing agent MnO^-_4(aq) + Fe^2+(aq) + H^+(aq) rightarrow Mn^2+(aq) + Fe^3+(aq) + H_2O(l) Calculate the energy in kJ of one hole of blue light with a wavelength 434.1 nm. What is the wavelength of the line in Balmer series in the spectrum of the hydrogen atom the n = 3? In which region of the electromagnetic spectrum is this line found?

Explanation / Answer

3.

Na2 CO3+ 2HCl = 2NaCl + CO2+ H2O (1)

Molecular weight of Na2 CO3 = 105.99 g/mol

Molecular weight of HCl = 36.5 g/mol

Assume 0.15 g Na2 CO3 in 1 L

Moles of Na2 CO3 = wt/molecular wt = 0.15/105.99 moles = 0.001415

From eq (1), 1 mole of Na2 CO3 require 2 moles of HCL

Therefore Molarity of HCL = 2* 0.001415 = 0.283

4a

Zn (s)+ Cu(NO3)2 (aq) = Zn(NO3)2 (aq)+ Cu (s)

because in this case, G(20C) = -171.8kJ

4b (i)

V 3+ (aq) + 2H+ (aq) + e- = V 3+ (aq)+ H2O (l)

4b (ii)

Cr2O7 2- + 14 H+ = 2Cr 3+ + 7 H2O
