Question

Part A Click the DeltaH is an Extensive Property button within the activity, and analyze the relationship between the two reactions that are displayed. The reaction that was on the screen when you started and its derivative demonstrate that the change in enthalpy for a reaction, H, is an extensive property. Using this property, calculate the change in enthalpy for Reaction 2. Reaction 1: C3H8(g)+5O2(g)3CO2(g)+4H2O(g), H1=2043 kJ Reaction 2: 6C3H8(g)+30O2(g)18CO2(g)+24H2O(g), H2=? Express your answer to four significant figures and include the appropriate units. H2 = SubmitHintsMy AnswersGive UpReview Part

Explanation / Answer

1)C3H8(g)+5O2(g)3CO2(g)+4H2O(g), H1=2043 kJ

2) 6C3H8(g)+30O2(g)18CO2(g)+24H2O(g)

The H is an extensive property because it depends of the amount of matter. We can see that the reaction 2 is six times the reaction 1. So, the   H of reaction 2 will be six times the H of reaction 1.

H2=6x H1=6x2043 kJ 2043 kJ = -1.2258x104 KJ
