21. Which one of the following would be expected to change the value of the equilibrium constant? (a) adding reactant (b) adding product (c) adding a catalyst (d) changing the temperature (e) decreasing the reaction vessel volume 22. A substance that is capable of acting as both an acid and as a base is (a) amphiprotic (b) conjugated (c) autosomal (d) binary acid-base (e) miscible diprotic 23. Ag3PO4 would be least soluble at 25°C in (a) 0.1 M AgNO3 (b) 0.1 M HNO3 (c) pure water (d) 0.1 M Na3PO4 (e) solubility in (a), (b), (c), or (d) is not differentExplanation / Answer
21. The correct answer is option d. changing the temperature.
The only thing that changes the equilibrium constant value is change in temperature. Remaining all options i.e, concentration of reactants and products and volume shifts the position of equilibrium in the forward or backward direction. It does not change the value of equilibrium constant.
However at constant temperature Kc and Kp are constant but they vary as the temperature changes.
If forward reaction is exothermic, an increase in temperature decreases the equilibrium constant value. Again if the forward reaction is endothermic, an increase in temperature increases the equilibrium constant value.
