Question

You are studying the process of glycogen degradation in hepatocytes (liver cells). To understand the role of this process in cell metabolism you add an inhibitor of glycogen degradation to a culture of liver cells. Under which of the following conditions do you predict this inhibitor would have an effect on liver cell function? SELECT ALL answers that are correct. when the liver cell needs to add glucose to the blood when the liver cell uses stored glucose for fuel when the liver cell needs to store glycogen when the liver cell uses blood glucose for fuel

Explanation / Answer

All the options are correct.

a.) during meal lever stores the sugar so that when we are not eating our body may utilise the sugar present in the lever, then lever adds glucose to the blood so that requirement may be catered. but if inhibitor is added then this lever cell function will be effected.

b) as explained in option a ... at time of requirement of sugar the lever cell uses stored glycogens and convert them into glucose which acts as body fuel ..but if inhibitor is present this will be effected.

c) while we are eating the primary objective of lever cells is to store the glycogens for future uses ..but inhibito will hinder this function.

d) suppose a condition when no glycogen is present in the lever then the lever cells will utilise the blood glucose to convert them into glycogen and use it further as the fuel ... but an inhibitor will hinder this function.
