Failure to complete all answers may result in exclusion from participating in the lab. A student heated a 4.901 g sample of a hydrated iron chloride. After heating, the anhydrous iron chloride had a mass of 3.010 g. Calculate the percentage by mass of water in the hydrated compound.Explanation / Answer
Given
mass of hydrated sample = Sample + Water = 4.901 g
mass of anhydrous sample g
there fore mass of water present = 4.901 - 3.01 = 1.891 g
therefore
percentage by mass of water in the hydrated compound = (1.891 g / 4.901g) * 100 = 38.58%
