Question
Pre-Lab Assignment 1. Calculate the mass of malonic acid (C_3H_4O_4, MW 104.07 g/mol) required to prepare 50.00 mL of a 0.15 M malonic acid solution. 2. Calculate the mass of manganese sulfate monohydrate (MnSO_4 middot H_2O, MW 169.01 g/mol) required to prepare 50.00 mL of a 0.020 M manganese sulfate solution. 3. Calculate the mass of potassium iodate (KIO_3, MW 213.99 g/mol) required to prepare 50.00 mL of a 0.20 M potassium iodate solution. 4. Calculate the volume of 1.0 M sulfuric acid (H_2SO_4) required to prepare 100.00 mL of a 0.080 M sulfuric acid solution. Use the formula M_1V_1 = M_2V_2. 5. Calculate the volume of 30% (w/w) hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2) required to prepare 25.00 mL of 6% hydrogen peroxide. Use the formula M_1V_1 = M_2V_2.Explanation / Answer
Ans no 4.Given
m1=1.0M,V1=? m2=0.080, v2=50ml
we know , m1v1=m2v2
v1=m2v2/m1
v1= 0.080*50/1
v1=4 ml hence the volume of h2so4 is 4ml
Ans no 1.
1000cm3 of 1M malonic acid required 104.07 g of malonic acid
so, 1000cm3 of 0.15 malonic acid required = 104.07*0.15=15.61 g of malonic acid
hence , 50 ml 0f 0.15 malonic acid required=104.07*50*0.15/1000=0.780 g of malonic acid.
ANS NO 3.
we know no of moles, n=cv
n=0.20*0.05
n=0.01 ml
now, m=nM
m=0.01*213.99=2.13g
