Question
1b)The decomposition of nitramide in aqueous solution at 25 °C NH2NO2(aq)N2O(g) + H2O(l) is first order in NH2NO2 with a rate constant of 4.70×10-5 s-1. If the initial concentration of NH2NO2 is 0.208 M, the concentration of NH2NO2 will be 5.47×10-2 M after------s have passed. 1c)The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in dilute sodium hydroxide at 20 °C H2O2(aq)H2O(l) + ½ O2(g) is first order in H2O2. During one experiment it was found that when the initial concentration of H2O2 was 4.50×10-2 M, the concentration of H2O2 dropped to 1.00×10-2 M after 903 min had passed. Based on this experiment, the rate constant for the reaction is 1d)Solve following problems (1) X2 + (2.2 x 10-2)x – (1.2 x 10-4) =0
Explanation / Answer
1b)
rate constant k = 4.70 x 10^-5 s-1
initial concentration Ao = 0.208 M
after the concentration At = 5.47×10^-2 M
for first - order reaction :
k = 1/t ln (Ao / At)
4.70 x 10^-5 = 1/t ln (0.208 / 5.47×10^-2)
t = 28418.6 sec
time = 2.84 x 10^4 s
1c)
k = 1/903 x 60 ln (4.50 x 10^-2 / 1.00 x 10^-2)
= 2.78 x 10^-5 s-1
rate constant k = 2.78 x 10^-5 s-1
