Question
The reaction is :2NO2 ---> 2NO + O2
b) For the reaction given above in a particular experiment at 300 °C, [NO2]drops from 0.0100 to 0.00650 M in 100s , Calculate the rate of appearance of O2 for this period. b) For the reaction given above in a particular experiment at 300 °C, [NO2]drops from 0.0100 to 0.00650 M in 100s , Calculate the rate of appearance of O2 for this period. b) For the reaction given above in a particular experiment at 300 °C, [NO,Jdrops from 0.0100 to 0.00650 M in 100s, Calculate the rate of appearance of O, for this period.
Explanation / Answer
The reaction is :
2NO2 ---> 2NO + O2
and
we have
rate = - 1/2 d[NO2]//dt = d[O2]/dt
therefore
d[NO2]/dt = - (0.0100 - 0.00650 ) / 100 = - 3.5 x 10^-5 M/s
and therefore rate of appearence of O2 is
d[O2]/dt = 2 x d[NO2]/dt
= 2 x 3.5 x 10^-5 M/s
= 7.0 x 10^-5 M/s
