Question
For the titrations, you used a much larger volume of the Drink the Juice sample. Was this good lab practice? Determine the number of drops of DCP that would have been needed, and the uncertainty in the measurement, if only 5 ml of the Drink sample had been titrated. Which of the following can be concluded? With 5 mL of Drink, the number of drops from the buret would have been very small, leading to a large error. With 5 mL of Drink, too much DCP would be required, leading to a large error. With 5 mL of Drink, no DCP would be required, leading to a large error. With 5 mL of Drink, all the DCP would be used, leading to a large error With 5 mL to a large error of Drink, no reaction would with DCP, leading to a large error.Explanation / Answer
Part 1
Yes this is good practice, because drink has very low concentration than juice so to add sufficient amount (measurable amount) of titrant we have to take large volume of drink. Other wise error will be more.
Part B
With 5mL of drink, the number of drops from the burette would have been very small, leading to large error.
Because if the titrant volume is very small for example 5 drops, if extra one drop is added than required then error will be 20%.
If the volume is very high for example 100 drops, if one extra drop is added than required then error will be only 1%.
