Question

For the reaction A + B rightarrow Y + Z, briefly state how one would apply the pseudo order method to determine the reaction order with respect to each reactant Use the potential energy contour to answer the following questions. The potential energy contour corresponds to the reaction between hydrogen and fluorine atoms that are constrained to react in a collinear geometry (i.e., all atoms lie along the same straight line). What is the approximate equilibrium H_a-F bond distance in Angstroms? On the diagram, use a * to indicate the point representing the transition state. Then, in the space below, sketch the activated complex found at this point (use proper notation). What is the enthalpy change for this reaction? Sketch the corresponding potential energy diagram on the axes below. Label the following clearly on your diagram: both axes, E_t, E_-t, delta U, delta H, reactants, products, activated complex ().

Explanation / Answer

A + B ----> X +Y

rate = k[A]^m [B]^n

where m and n are reaction order with respect to each reactant

you have to take two measurements 1 and 2 where concentration of A will remain constant and concentration of B is varied.

Rate 1/Rate2 = k[A]^m [B]^n/k[A]^m [B]^n

As concentration of A is same in both the cases, this term will cancel.From the ratio above you can calculate the value of n.

Similarly, keeping concentration of B constant and changing concentration of A , will give the value of m.
