I believe I am having some problems with notation with respect tolocation of transcription promoters. The text book I amusing, Introduction to genetic analysis 8th ed., reportsthat promoters are upstream, on the 5' side of the gene. Italso says that the RNA pol travels in the 3'->5'direction. When the author says the promoter is on the 5'side of the gene, is it the 5' side with respect to thenon-template strand (the strand this is not copied)? If thisis not the case I am very lost because if the RNA pol travels3'->5' it will reach the promoter after it transcribes the DNAto RNA.
