Question

Presentations are everywhere. We see evidence of speakers addressing audiences to accomplish specific purposes in the media and in real life situations. It is important to understand the factors that make a speaker effective or ineffective, dynamic or a dud. Describe a presentation/speech that you observed in the media or in real life. Give a brief description of the situation and evaluate the effectiveness of the speaker and message based on your observations. Use concepts from the unit reading to support your analysis. Consider the following in your analysis: Was the message clear? Did the audience appear to be engaged? What verbal or nonverbal elements enhanced or detracted from the message? Overall, do you think the message and delivery was impactful? Why or why not? How could it have been improved? Why or why not? Provide examples. Your response should be at least 200 words in length.

Explanation / Answer

The presentation was about career counseling and prospects in management for students. The presentation was organized by one of the NGO in collaboration with out university.

The presenter was an academician and carrier councilor. She engaged everyone because of her knowledge and expertise as well as his way of speaking and attention to details. She gave all the answers to questions asked and explained in a simple language.

Her use of non verbal elements such as hands, eye contact and the use of gestures and body language was very good and kept everyone engaged in listening. These non-verbal elements added to the effectiveness of her presentation.

Her delivery of presentation was impactful because of the diligence she shown in explaining everyone by engaging them by use of both verbal and nonverbal elements of communication.

She didn’t try to fill the awkward silences with nuisance; instead of it she encouraged us to ask questions and even told us what we can ask about carrier.

For example, in the mid she asked one person to ask question, the person was silent and was unable to have guts to ask questions. She went near to him and made him to ask question by giving him some areas related to the person’s course.
