Good Leaders are both artists and scientists
Art of Leadership: We often miss the artistic side of leadership. Leadership is built around an act of pure imagination because relationships with people is built by putting yourself in others shoes. Its clearly an act of empathy and empathy is an act of imagination. All the great literature is built upon empathy but the art empathy is vital, it is to understand people around you and the people you work with and for. It is all about finding ways to motivate them.There is no effective leadership without creativity and innovation, these both comes under artistic mindset. Take an example of Apple, they have achieved great success with their products and it comes from a focus on design and aestetics. It comes from imagining new products that no one has seen. iphone is a figment of someones imagination.The artistic side is very important in making leadership creative and empathetic. Without artistic mindset leaders cannot understand the people around them.
Science of Leadership: In the present era, it is science that we all follow and work with. Though the leaders may not be a data scientists, they still have to analyse the data provided. It not about microscopes or telescopes, it is the scientific method of about looking at the evidence in front of you and using it to form conclusions. This is the process which leaders do and follow everyday. They will look at the information provided to them and they will make conclusions out of it.
Ethics should be included in the definition when we are talking about leadership as the there is no great leader who is not ethically strong. Effective leaders face the complexity involved in making ethical choices - they dont separate ethics from day to day business - They dont allow negative interpersonal behaviors to erode trust - They dont exempt anyone from meeting ethical expectations. They build relations with people on trust and follow ethics in a very strict way. So it is very important to include ethics in the leadership definiton.
True and effective leaders always aim at achieving the positive goal. They just dont make a goal like any other people when the effective leader aims at a particular thing it will definitely be a positive goal and will also effect and influence other people in a very positive way. So it is very important to include positive goal when we define a effective leadership.
