As a decision manager, your responsibility is to see that people in your company decide well. Exercising this responsibility requires that you do things such as clean up the mess after disastrous decisions, replace poor deciders, and train new, better ones. At the heart of each of these actions and, indeed, decision making itself, is the notion of quality—decision quality, decision process quality, and decider quality. What exactly should these ideas mean, and how should you, as a decision manager, make them functional in practice?

Decision making is itself a notion of quality. Not all people would be able to take the decisions as and when appropriate. It comes with the experience with the situations that have already been faced or being faced by an individual.

People are of different types, Some can not decide at all, some can decide quick and will be in dilemma whether the decision is right or wrong and some, would directly take the decisions as quick as possible (it may become better or worse depending on the situation).

Decision Quality: It is the quality of the decision which is taken.

Decision Process Quality: It the quality of the process by calculating pros and cons of the situation before coming to a decision.

Decider Quality: A decider would generally be the one who takes the decision. This quality can be found by the previous decisions taken by the particular person.

In order to make them functional in practise, I would conduct small tests or I would give case studies to my team to learn and understand how the good or bad decisions worked in a particular time and in a particular case.

Apart from that, whenever the time permits (but once in a week for sure) would meet all my team either individually or in a group as applicable to see what challenges they are facing (if any ) and would work on resolving it.
