Question
Select a current "crisis" event (Gulf oil disaster, global warming, bird and fish kills, etc) and create three (3) separate paragraphs (all in one initial thread) that 'report' the event using these different voices: Paragraph 1: A politician calming voters' fears. Paragraph 2: A concerned citizen demanding action. Paragraph3: An 'end of the world' fanatic persuading everyone that our time on this planet has run out. Then: Respond to three (3) peers by selecting one of the paragraphs and rewriting it from the opposite voice. (Policitian alarming voters, non-concerned cititzen wondering what all the fuss is about, everyday person reminding everyone the end is not near). Use the same situation, facts, etc. that your classmate used...only change the voice and have fun with this one!
Explanation / Answer
Let us consider the topic Global Warming and go ahead with the three different voices.
1. A politician calming voters' fears: We all know that the earth is warming up due to the various greenhouse gases that are let into the atmosphere. But I would like to assure you that there is nothing to worry. This problem is absolutely solvable and we can do it if we stand united in this concern. We need to go green and let us all sign a moral petition stating that we would not chop down any tree. Further we should also take an oath that we would definitely present one tree sapling in addition to the gifts to our frnds, family or relatives. We should also take initiatives against those who fell down trees. When we take individual responsibility about our environment then we would be able to save our society and earth from Global warming. From the Government's perspective we have taken emission control measures to make sure that the emission from industries and other sources are well kept under control. So as your minister we promise that we would act against all those who fell trees and those who act against the pollution laws.
2: A concerned citizen demanding action: As an individual concerned about the place where I live, I see a lot of papers being wasted in schools and magazines. We should all remeber that it from the tree that we get papers. So we should try not wasting papers to maximum extent. Government should take actions against those who pollute the environment and those who avoid using recycled papers.
3. An 'end of the world' fanatic persuading everyone that our time on this planet has run out: We all know that there is an end to each and every thing on this earth. Like wise Earth also has its end and the end is very much nearing. We should have it in mind that the end will not take place overnight rather the social destructions will take place in different forms in different corners of the world. Like for example, the landslides, the earthquakes, the Tsunami's, the storms are all examples of natural disasters are all indications that out time on this planet is going to come to an end. So let us all be together and make sure that Earth is definitely the best place to live in.
Opposite Voice:
1. Policitian alarming voters : As you all are aware the there is serious global warming effect in our planet. Further I would like to highlight a few more points to add up to the fact. Global warming cannot be controlled as there is continous increase in the number of Air-conditioners and vehicles being used. The temperature of the entire atmosphere is increasing by +3 degree celsius every year and these are all indications that the worst disasters are yet to come. Hence I request you all to be safe during the time of disasters and act proactively since the various signs of global warming are threatening.
2. Non-concerned cititzen wondering what all the fuss is about: There was a topic called Global warming that was taken for discussion in my neighbourhood today and I was wondering what all was about. I was wondering as how a life is possible without air conditioners. I was also wondering as to what my single air-conditioner and car is going to emit. The entire discussion turned out be meaningless for me and I excused myself from the discussion as I seemed it completely irrelevant.
3. Everyday person reminding everyone the end is not near: We need to understand that the moon, sun and stars have been there for many thousand year and the evolution of man has not happened overnight. We should understand that the Earth can never come to an end by social disasters. There is saying that " Men may come and go but Earth Abides". Birth and Death are natural phenomenon which takes place in order to maintain the balance of the atmosphere. What we have to be worried is only about the legacy that we are going to leave behind. Hence there is no end to the Earth, It has seen several thousand years, it will see several thousand years and am sure if we take an oath to make this earth a better place to live in, we can also be a part of this luvly world as long as we live.
