JC helps in establishing standards of practice in the health care industry as its accredition and certification recognized throughout USA and is considered as a quality stamp on an organization in terms of its performance standards.
ANA or the American Nurse Association, helps in advancing the nursing profession. Its role in establishing standards of practice in the health care industry is limited to the nursing aspect of the industry. ANA fosters high standards ofnursingpractice. It also promotes an ethical as well as a safe work environment. This helps in improving thequalityofhealthcareforall.
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) manages children health insurance programs and the health insurance market place along with medicare and medicaid in USA. It helps in establishing standards of practice in the health care industry by helping to strengthen and modernize America's healthcare systems. The goal of CMS is to achieve a high quality health care system by aiming for better health care access at lower costs.
The tools and processes used by organizations to ensure that standards are met are several. For example, AHRQ (agency for healthcare research and quality) has set the following tools: inpatient quality indicators like the National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) which is an online database of clinical practice guidelines, Patient Outcome Research Teams (PORTS) which is a clinical performance measure, U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), which is an independent panel of private-sector experts in primary care and prevention.
In my organization, the process of delivering care is managed strictly. The process aims towards error reduction. Here the six sigma theory is applied in my organization. The triology of structure, process and outcome is being aimed to improve in my organization.
Being a doctor, my role is more focussed on the outcomes i.e improvements in the results achieved like mortality rates.
In the QI process, staff at all levels should be involved. The QI plan should be developed by listing and prioritizing the QI projects. Staff from all levels should be included to brainstorm while developing the QI plan, especially in the initial stages. The staff can develop a list of changes that, according to them, can improve the process.
